Metropolitan Elevator-Maker Set A New Record

The Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant (KMZ) set a record in making elevators among Russian companies. The plant produced 270-thousandth elevator to the 873th anniversary of the Russian capital city, said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Matters Vladimir Efimov.

“In Moscow there are two largest producers of elevators in the country. They are the Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant and Shcherbinsky Elevator-Building Plant. Over seven months, all Moscow producers released nearly 9,000 equipment items. This is 25% more than in the same period last year. The Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant accounts for more than one third of this volume. Since the beginning of the year, the company has been actively increasing productions: the growth in orders and broadening sales markets will allow KMZ to renew the Russian record,” he said.

The plant employs 1,032 people today. In spite of the temporary restraints period due to the pandemic, the company has managed to retain all employees.

“Also, KMZ is one of the largest taxpayers of Moscow. Each year, the company pays up to RUB 800 mln to budgets of different levels,” Aleksander Prokhorov, Head of Metropolitan Department for Investment and Industrial Policy, noted.

The domestic elevator industry started in 1949. Over this period, the companies have made more than 520,000 elevators. More than half of them have been produced under the KMZ brand.

This February, the Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant celebrated its 70th anniversary. Each year, the company produces more than 6,000 elevators and supplies equipment throughout Russia. Elevators of this brand operate successfully in CIS and 26 world countries.

Moscow is one of largest clients of the company. Elevator machinery of this company is used, among other, in the unique objects of the city: the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Memorial on Poklonnaya Gora and the State Kremlin Palace.
