Almost Nine Thousand Elevators are to be Replaced in the Capital during the Next Several Years

According to the statistics provided on the official website of the Mayor of Moscow, more than 33 thousand elevators in total have already been replaced in the city since 2011.

A special update program for elevator equipment in Moscow covering the period from 2021 to 2023 has been approved. During this time, 8.8 thousand elevators are planned to be replaced, – the Deputy Mayor of Moscow Government on Housing, Utilities and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov stated.

“Since 2018, the city no longer resorts to service-life extension regarding elevator equipment. Due to this fact, in 2021–2023 residents of more than 2.2 thousand houses will get new equipment three years ahead of schedule. Since 2011, more than 33 thousand elevators have been replaced in the city – he said – which, in fact, is one fourth of their total number.”

Units and assemblies of elevator equipment are being replaced within the framework of the capital overhaul program. Specialists replace elevator cars, hoistway doors on the floors, hoisting units, counterweights, speed limiters and other elements for new ones. In case there are several elevators in the stairwell, they are repaired one by one. All the installed elevators are of domestic production.

Where the elevator shaft permits, the entrance opening is enlarged by installing telescopic design doors. Modern wear-resistant materials including panels with a special silvery coating, are used in decorating the elevator car with the floor made of corrugated aluminum.

The elevators are also equipped with new control panels, finished with faceted stainless steel with a built-in enlarged full-color electronic display, a voice informant system, an intercom and braille buttons made of stainless steel with circular light bias. More than that, there are convenient light displays and call buttons on the staircases, and bright power-efficient lamps illuminate the elevator cars.
